Indianapolis, Indiana (March 23, 2010) – Walker Racing has signed American driver, Jonathan Summerton, a Florida resident to drive the Walker Racing entry #40 for the first Firestone Indy Lights Series event, the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg on March 28, 2010.
Summerton now turns his sights on the Firestone Indy Lights Series after coming off two back-to-back seasons in the Atlantic Series. Previous to that Jonathan also competed competitively in A1 GP and in 2006 was in the F3 Euro Series. Jonathan has excelled in all the formulas that he has competed in. The Firestone Indy Lights Series is the final step before Indy Car and one that he is up to the challenge.
Says Walker Racing team owner Derrick Walker, “I am fortunate to have secured Jonathan’s services to drive for me again. We have worked together before back in 2004 in the BMW Series so it’s good to be joining forces again to race at St. Petersburg. Our program came together later than I would have liked, so having Jonathan available to us was a bonus”.
Walker Racing’s first season in the Firestone Indy Lights Series was in 2009. Current plans are to race one car for driver Jonathan Summerton with plans in the works to expand into a second car program.
Jonathan Summerton says, “I am really glad to get a chance to race in the Firestone Indy Lights Series and to be racing in Florida close to home will be fun. Continuing, Jonathan says, I have wanted to compete in the Indy Car Series and through Indy Lights is a great way to do it”.
